Why Swedish Meatballs?
Geneva is nicknamed the “Little Sweden” of the Fox Valley, known for having an influx of Swedish immigrants, specifically between 1880-1900. By the late 1890’s half of Geneva’s citizen’s first language was Swedish.
Swedish lodges were formed in the area to preserve Swedish traditions giving Geneva a lasting connection to Sweden and influencing its culture.
Geneva still celebrates Swedish heritage with Swedish Days, 2026 will be the 76th year of the celebration.
Local businesses, events and residents still celebrate the traditions brought by early settlers.
