GENEVA, Ill. – The Kane County Cougars announce a transition in on-field leadership ahead of the 2027 season as George Tsamis departs the organization to accept a field manager position with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. David Holmberg, who has served as the Cougars’ pitching coach since 2024, will step into the role as the Cougars next Field Manager.
“George has been an incredible part of the Kane County Cougars organization, and we are truly grateful for everything he has contributed during his time as our field manager," said Cougars Vice President and General Manager Curtis Haug. “We are excited for him and his next chapter. We send George our best wishes for continued success.”
During his tenure as the Cougars manager, Tsamis recorded a regular season record of 305-293 (.510) and led the team to back-to-back Miles Wolff Cup Championships in 2024 and 2025. He leaves behind a lasting impact through his leadership and dedication to the team’s achievements.
Holmberg has served as the Cougars pitching coach for the past three seasons, including guiding the pitching staff to a record 0.83 playoff ERA in 2024, ultimately leading to back-to-back championships in 2024 and 2025.
“David Holmberg has been an integral part of our organization since joining the coaching staff in 2024,” said Haug. “His leadership, knowledge of the game and commitment to our players make him a great fit for the role. We look forward to seeing him lead our team and continue building on the success of the Kane County Cougars.”
Holmberg was drafted 71st overall to the Chicago White Sox organization out of high school in 2009. He spent time in Major League Baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Red, and Chicago White Sox, making his debut in 2015.
“First of all I want to thank Sean Decker and REV Entertainment, Curtis Haug, and the entire Kane County Cougars organization for the opportunity to lead an amazing organization on the field in 2027,” said Holmberg. “I look forward to bringing another championship caliber team to the field in 2027 and giving the best fans in baseball another summer of excitement!”
Holmberg is well-positioned to lead the club into the 2027 season and continue building on the Cougars’ tradition of success bringing familiarity and valuable experience.
