Jake The
Diamond Dog
The best darn dog in
professional baseball. A utility
player that does it all. Always
a fan favorite. Jake is one of
the most original acts in the
game. Barnstorming across
America to ballparks where his
in-game performance includes:
delivering the game ball to the
pitcher, shagging foul balls,
taking water and towels to the
umps, playing batboy, catching
Frisbees and honoring the
Sweetheart of the Game. Jake
will even sign paw prints for
the kids.
Jake, born January 4, 1993, was
known by fans since his first
performance in 1995 for his
human-like abilities on the
baseball field where he would
stage himself in his dog house
in foul territory on the first
base side after delivering the
first ball to the pitcher in his
ever-present basket. From there
he would shag foul balls,
convincing fans he knew the
difference between fair or foul.
Without a doubt, his utility
player abilities earned him
V.I.P. (very impressive pooch)
status.

Jake and Jericho were trained by
owner Jeff Marchal, who has a
special gift for working with
dogs. He trained a Golden
Retriever, known as Chase, that
is now the full time mascot for
the New York Yankees AA Trenton
Thunder. Marchal also trained
the current Jake “The Diamond
Dog,” formerly known as Homer.
Two seasons ago Homer traveled
with Jake to performances and
gradually became part of the
act. Jake retired for good in
2005 and Homer took over with a
wealth of experience from his
mentor.
