Like a flip of
the switch, the start of December has
brought the white stuff and some serious
coldness to Geneva. Here at the ballpark, I
took a walk around this morning and was
curious to see what was new. For one, there
were what seemed to be deer tracks on the
path between the first base lawn and right
field deck. Perhaps some local wildlife were
curious to get a sneak peek at how different
Elfstrom Stadium looks these days.
For the record, there are less than 130 days
until the start of baseball again. That
first pitch of the 2009 season sure seemed
like a long time away when I was standing in
the visitor's dugout this morning, thanks to
a balmy temperature reading of 25 degrees.
For the last couple of weeks, the
construction crew has been insulated from
the nastier conditions, thanks to a
temporary barrier that extends along the
concourse.
The covered concourse now extends to the
third base side with the installation of
some large-frame steel. Carpeting and tile
have been added to the administrative
offices. From the concourse area behind the
press box, I walked through the new entrance
that will connect the concourse to the
atrium area.
